I think the power of suggestion might be at the root of this scandal. Let’s first realize that the Daily Mail’s “beaten woman tattoo” headline leads into a story in which there’s not a single quote from anyone—not Chris Brown, not Chris Brown’s spokesperson—describing the tattoo as such. That’s just the Daily Mail editors saying what they perceive. Secondly, from this sketch, which the tattoo is based on, it looks like what we’re dealing with is a woman with half a normal face and half a face surrounded by flower petals or wearing a decorative Phantom of the Opera mask or something? It’s a crappy tattoo, but based on what I can see here, I don’t think it’s a battered woman. Then again, who knows! We’re attempting to decipher a fucking tattoo!

It is really hard to tell what’s going on with that face, but ALSO did they not seriously use that picture of Rihanna’s beaten-up face as part of a stupid news story about a tattoo?!? Like a digital reproduction at a private moment of trauma that she really obviously doesn’t want people to define her by? I, ugh.
(Lesson: never look at the Daily Mail website.)
